Speculation around the Versace IPO spans another fashion season!

Italian luxury fashion house Versace was first linked to a possible IPO back in May 2012, but even then the Versace family appeared in no rush to move forward, with a two to three year window being mooted as the timescale for the listing to take place. Further speculation appeared around April 2013 that the family were again looking for potential external investment, then again in March 2014, with a date being indicated as sometime before 2020!

This week the group’s chief executive, Gian Giacomo Ferraris, was quoted as saying: “We are seriously preparing, it will also depend on external factors like the performance of financial markets, in any case we will be ready”.

Given recent stock market turbulence it seems a strange time for the rumour to resurface, but given that a number of Versace’s luxury fashion peers including Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Fabiana Filippi and Roberto Cavalli have also seen speculation relating to them listing, perhaps it’s this season’s fashion “must have”!
